Miele Ladies Competition Leinster Regional Final – Slieve Russell – 14/08/07
Dublin City Golf Club vs The K Club
dublin city miele team.jpgThe only real failure in life is the failure to try…. and although our team lost 3:1 in this their first foray in the Miele competition, the match was hard fought, well played and very close at all times. The huge commitment and effort put in by all ladies involved in the I.L.G.U/Miele Leinster regional final between Dublin City Golf Club and the K club on 14/08/07 sets a standard of excellence for future years.

The Slieve Russell Golf Course was the setting, and as the red Miele banners billowed, our team in blue, white and navy stepped up to the first hole. First off were Tricia Nolan(12) and Louise Murphy(14) who went on to record a great win in their match on the 16th. hole, 3 up. Second out were Esme Murphy (8) and Elaine Hartigan(25) who fought hard to the 17th. hole, when they lost the match 2 down. Third up were Joan Shields(16) and Grace O’Neill(19) who took their match to the 18th. hole, when they were called in, 1 down. Finally Shiela Stone (16) and Kathleen Dunleavy(22) finished at the difficult 16th. hole, 3 down. Thanks also the two subs from the panel, Brigid Dunne and Karen O’Donnell. Some compensation may be taken from the fact that this is the K Club’s third attempt to win this regional final so well done to their team in their first success.
Many many supporters from Dublin City Golf club came to support the ladies and all agreed that the standard of golf was simply excellent. One example of this was seen by all when Esme had to birdie the 16th. hole to beat a par by the K Club. Thanks to them for making the effort to support their club, to those who travelled up and back on the day and those who stayed overnight.

The team and the club must credit much of their success the fantastic efforts of Leonie Colgan as Team Manager. From the very start, a high standard was set. Practises, matches, coaching sessions, parties, sandwiches for the games, pep talk texts - this woman gave 100% to the task in hand throughout the seven matches that were played to this point. Leonie is a rare individual who can direct and organise without fuss or bias. An enormous amount of work went into the outfits that the team wore over the two days in the Slieve Russell, pink and white for practise, navy and white for dinner, club colours for the match and Cutter and Buck windcheaters for after the match. We looked the part! Esme Murphy also played a very important part as Team Captain, helping Leonie and organising the gear.

Thanks also must go to Mick Byrne for sponsoring the clothes for the Final on behalf of Mitsubishi Ireland. If there had been a Miele award for the best dressed team, we would have won it outright!

Dublin City Golf Club congratulates the Miele team players, team manager, team captain, team sponsors, team supporters and all who have input into the tournament as far as it went. It was a proud day for the club.

And in today already walks tomorrow.... We will be back, of that there is no doubt!
