DublinCity Golf Club CHAMPIONS!

Image What a day, what a journey and it’s not over yet! This day will go down inthe history of Dublin City Golf Club as the first win and first pennant for a District Final to be brought home to the club.

The Ladies Intermediateteam of Sheila Stone, Grace O’Neill, Karen O’Donnell, Brigid Dunne and KathleenDunleavy ably supported by Pauline Scully and Joan Shields on the subs bench beat Mannan Castle 3 ˝ to 1 ˝.

Starting out back on 22ndApril in South County, a team of five players from just seven in the handicap category 16-22 beat Bray in the first round. We then travelled theshort road to Castle Golf Club to beat Knockanally. Clane were felled atthe next hurdle in Bodenstown. The month of July saw the team beat a very strong K Club selection in Lucan followed swiftly by Seapoint at Castlewarden. It was then on to the Glen of the Downs where The Island were no match for our ladies. Match seven in the final was comprehensively won not on luck but through skill, determination, experience and team spirit.

This was only the second year that the club had entered this competition having fallen at the first hurdle last year. The historic win was celebrated in the club last Sunday evening with Captains Peggy and Ray in residence. It was a very proud day for the club and especially all those out in force in Donabate last Sunday.

The huge commitment and effort put in by the team, caddies and supporters throughout each round havebeen rewarded with a shot at an all-Ireland title.
