Our Captain, Paddy O’Brien, has announced details of his Prize Competition which will commence with qualifying beginning on Friday 18th July.
The Captain has decided that the format for his competition will be similar to previous year’s competitions.
Qualifying takes place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 18th, 19th and 20th July.
A player may only enter on one of the qualifying days. The final will take place on Sunday 27th July.
Closing date for entries is Wednesday, 16th July at 8pm. The full details are as follows:
A pro rata system will apply on each qualifying day, ensuring a minimum number of players will be guaranteed qualification from each the 3 qualifying days, plus a number of the next best qualifiers from all 3 days. Therefore, irrespective of weather conditions, and once the course is open for play, qualification will take place on each of the 3 days unless otherwise stated by the Captain.
The format at all stages will be Medal (Strokeplay) off the White tee markers.
It is expected that circa 80 players will qualify for the final day and a panel of reserves will be established in the event of dropouts. Please be aware that the final will take place all day on Sunday 27th from circa 8.45 to circa 19.00 hours.
It is therefore important that any player who qualifies, but subsequently cannot play in the final day must inform the Captain or Competition’s Secretary so that a reserve may be allowed play in the final.
For players unable to enter the main competition, or who fail to qualify, a Captain’s Plate competition will be held on Saturday 26th July.
On the Final day, a 27 hole competition will be held commencing with a 18 Hole shotgun start at circa 9am. The top 27 players and ties will qualify to compete in the final 9 holes in the afternoon.
Scores recorded in qualifying days will not carry forward to the final day. Scores recorded in the morning of the Final will carry forward to the afternoon.
Prize presentation will take place immediately after the final and all prize winners are expected to attend.
Please refer to page 6 of the 2008 Fixtures Diary as to eligibility to win the Captain’s Prize.
