D ear Member, May I start by thanking you all for your good wishes since I became Captain in January. I am delighted to hold the position as Lady Captain for 2006 and will endeavour to do my level best for the Club, particularly the Ladies section throughout the year.
We hope to have the Diary printed shortly and it will be available in
the Clubhouse. There are a number of new events this year and I hope
that as many as possible will support and play in the competitions. With
this Newsletter I am enclosing a letter with details of Club matchplay
competitions and inter Club matchplay competitions. Please read
carefully.
Hope you are all looking forward to a busy year of
golf and I certainly am looking forward to meeting you all either on
the golf course or in the bar. And remember – Golf is relaxing –
invigorating – stress free – not the waste of a good walk – a catalyst
for a good marriage, and guess what — you are on another planet! Enjoy
while you can.

The first week-end mixed competition took place on 28th/29th January. It was a great success. The mixed competitions are a superb way of getting to know different players. Although taken seriously by some, there is always a fun element involved as well. The teams for the week-end mixed competition can be made up of all ladies or men and ladies. The format will change for each competition. Next competition is Sat./Sun. 25th /26th Feb. Teams can be ladies only or mixed. See notice board for more details. Cheese and Wine
On Saturday 1st April we will have a 9 hole rumble competition and it will be followed by a Cheese and Wine Reception. To enter the competition you must put your name on the list that will be available on the Noticeboard up to Thursday 30th March. Teams will be selected on Thursday 30th March and you will then have to phone the Clubhouse on Friday or Saturday to find out your tee time. Semi-Open Competitions
We have 4 Semi Open Competitions this year, one in March, April, September and October. All members are entitled to bring a friend to play a round of golf at a reduced price (price not agreed as yet). There will be a prize giving in the evening. It is essential that tee times are booked.

Captain’s Drive in
On Sunday 26th March at around noon, both Mick Wyse and Theresa
Walsh have the daunting task (well daunting for Theresa anyway!) of
taking our official first drive of the year. A mixed competition for
all members will then take place with a shotgun start. More details
will be on the Notice board nearer the date.
Sponsors
If anybody is interested or knows an individual or company
interested in sponsoring any of our events throughout the year, could
they please contact me. Also, we are running, in conjunction with
the men, our first Charity Day Golf Competition in September. We
will be looking for as much sponsorship as possible for this event.
As yet we have not decided on what charity will benefit but it will be
a local charity.
Be careful of your valuables
There have been a number of incidents over the last couple of months
with cars being broken into and unwelcome visitors to our changing
rooms! Please take care. Do not leave items on display in your car
and please use the lockers in the changing room for your valuables.
Gillian Burrell Clinic
This will take place on a Thursday. Gillian will concentrate on
pitching and putting (you know what they say – ‘driving for show,
putting for dough’!!). To accommodate as many members as possible
there will be 3 sessions throughout the day. Each session will last
for 2 hours. The time, cost and list will be displayed in the
Clubhouse at a later date. Full payment will be required when
booking.
Birdie, Ring and Silver Spoon Competitions
All these competitions will begin as soon as we start playing
qualifying competitions. Details of these competitions will be on the
Notice board. The format for the birdie and ring will be the same as
last year. The Silver Spoon will be awarded to the lady who loses
most shots from her handicap in qualifying competitions throughout the
year.
Re-Indexing of course
New scorecards are being printed and should be ready in February.
These cards will contain details of the new indexes of the ladies holes. |
